Challenge

  • With more than 96,000 employees at 2,600 sites worldwide, SGS needed to collect enormous amounts of data to manage its health and safety processes and to ensure it followed consistent standards.
  • Prior to implementing Intelex, SGS conducted its reporting on paper and aggregated data in dozens of Excel spreadsheets to produce the necessary statistics.
  • Any software solutions SGS implemented needed to represent the real-world operational needs of the people who use them every day. If the tools are not easy for frontline workers to use, they simply will not use them.

Intelex Solution

  • SGS needs the ability to customize applications to meet its unique requirements.
  • SGS uses the Intelex App Builder to build or customize apps for its employees, including Incident Management and Reporting, Near Miss Management and Reporting, Permit to Work and Audits Management.
  • Since implementation, the SGS global team, including regional system administrators, has created 2,700 reports.
  • The system has a current inventory of 25,000 active users from around the world.

Results

  • Intelex is one of the top four most-used applications at SGS, with 91 dashboards created by global and local administrators.
  • Between 2009 and 2021, SGS has shown significant improvement in LTIR (Lost Time Incident Rate) and TRIR (Total Recordable Incident Rate).
  • The most significant drop in incident rates was in 2014-2015, when SGS first deployed Intelex and the Incident Management module was the strongest app used by SGS employees.
  • In 2016, SGS created a fully integrated HSE performance report using Intelex’s BI tool. It combined nine different reporting sources into one functional, dynamic, real-time report.
  • In 2019, SGS used App Builder to integrate vehicle telematics into the Intelex platform.
