University of Michigan is comprised of a world-class research university, an exceptional health system, great schools and museums, beautiful natural areas, and a robust arts community. The University was founded in Detroit in 1817 as the University of Michigania. The school moved westward to Ann Arbor in 1837, when the town was only 13 years old.
