The Director of Learning and Development will work closely with all levels of the organization to define the immediate and long term learning and development strategies that support business objectives. From technical training to professional development activities, this position will be responsible for incorporating key principles of adult education to effectively design and implement consistent training programs and materials aligning with the organizational vision and core values. Additionally, this position will develop, direct and implement learning and development initiatives as the organization continues to grow.

Scope of Responsibility
Successfully build a learning and development infrastructure, strategy and implement.
Plan, direct, and coordinate learning objectives and instructional strategies; including developing the best methodologies for training delivery (i.e. web-based, classroom, etc.).
Manage the integration, implementation and operation of the company’s learning management systems to create a central repository for all training and development data, and capture data on an individual basis to identify specific strengths and needs for individuals.
Support succession planning initiatives by developing and maintaining career development programs and provide a comprehensive curriculum of behavioral training, tools and resources for individual contributors and management; Responsible for maintaining coordination of training programs with succession management and leadership development programs.
Provide oversight on the mandated compliance training programs to ensure that the programs are developed in coordination with established standards and are properly executed and tracked within employee profiles.
Work with executive team and leaders to identify specific training needs within each business unit and functional group. Design and implement effective training options to close business unit and remote workforce (those working outside of Toronto) skill gaps (i.e. create ongoing Product Knowledge programs). Evaluate and monitor the development and effectiveness of these programs.
Identify current and future training client needs. Design and implement effective training programs, aids and materials utilizing knowledge of methods in classroom training, e-learning, on-the-job training, and self-study.
Develop standardized adult learning principles and programs for targeted audiences.
Select and monitor internal and external trainers and vendors to deliver consistent training programs and services.
Provide guidance regarding training and development practices, policies, processes and tools to executive and leaders.
Develop, maintain and distribute status learning and development reports as required.
Ensure on-going research and development initiatives to ensure company programs meet or exceed contemporary industry training standards and delivery innovations.
Act as primary liaison with academia and professional organizations that validate, accredit and certify company education and training programs as required.
Manages fiscal aspects of training including ROI of programs in meeting or exceeding budget standards. Measures, documents and reports on ROI assessments on learning initiatives.
Minimum 5 years experience identifying, designing, and implementing training programs and supporting the learning and development function at the management level.
Experience within management, operations support or in a supervisory position outside the L&D field.
Preferred: Training Certified including capabilities in ROI Evaluation, Curriculum Design and Delivery Methodologies.
Advanced computer skills needed, including MS Office Applications including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, with the ability to link operations, risks and financial data to evaluate situations.
Must display superior verbal, written, presentation, and facilitation skills.
Able to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to collaborate with all levels of management.
Proven ability to build strong working relationships, internal and external to the organization.
Working knowledge of current and emerging training tools and learning aids.
Ability to plan and organize accordingly in a fast-paced environment while still ensuring deadlines are met in a timely manner
