Australian Dept. of Environment Gets ISO 14001 Re-Certification

Intelex Technologies Inc., a leader in Environmental Management System (EMS) software, along with Graham A Brown & Associates (GABA), an Environmental Consulting firm, assist the Australian Government Department of the Environment & Heritage in having their ISO 14001 certification upgraded to the revised 2004 standard.

After utilizing Intelex's EMS software for a mere 6 weeks, and a two day audit by NCSI, DEH had their certification successfully upgraded on Thursday, May 4, 2006. GABA consultant Aaron Westwood assisted with an intensive 6-week mentoring program to fully rewrite the DEH's EMS Manual and procedures to reflect the use of the Intelex software and to populate and implement the software.

The mentoring program began on March 22, 2006 with a two-day EMS conformity assessment and development of a 6-week action plan to achieve the upgrade to ISO14001:2004 and in the process, simplify the EMS to suit an office-based environment. The Intelex software was purchased mid-April and was populated by two DEH staff in Canberra, ACT with the assistance of two GABA staff in Newcastle, NSW. Proving the software’s user-friendliness, the DEH staff were able to populate the system with less than one hour of user training (due to time constraints).

The certification auditor examined the use of the Intelex software and applauded the coverage of the system and its ability to manage workflows and maintain a centralized depository of real-time and historical EMS data. NCSI awarded the certification upgrade with no major or minor nonconformances.
